Oh, dear.
It appears that Zachary Catazaro has been replaced for his Siegfried debut in both Swan Lake performances at NYCB this week and next. Here's hoping that it's not anything serious.
Andrew Vyette will replace him in both performances.

Apparently he badly sprained an ankle yesterday during a run-through, landing on his left foot. Everyone heard a pop and he had to be carried off. Ugh.
I learned this from Sara Mearns’ public chat on Viber, called A Ballerina’s Life. It has quite an illustrious group of chatters, including Megan Fairchild, Ashley Bouder, Sterling Hyltin, Lauren Fadeley, Patricia Delgado, newlywed Gillian Murphy and your personal favorite, Stella Abrera.

Oh, no!
Catazaro has had such a hard time with injuries since he got promoted. Hopefully, this won’t be as bad as was originally thought. We’ll keep our fingers crossed.
Thanks much, Belladewood.

I was extremely unhappy with Andrew Veyette last night as Siegfried. He had neither princely manner, nor beautiful form, nor compelling jumps. A lot of the time he was standing hunched over. Joseph Gordon as Benno ran rings around him.
On the other hand, the men’s corps in Act I put the ABT men’s corps to shame. In fact, everything about Act I put ABT to shame. As much as I disliked the NYCB costumes (except for the swan corps costumes, which I thought were lovely), the Act I costumes at ABT are execrable. Okay, so the ABT sets are better.
Overall, the NYCB corps and soloist women are astonishing. Ashley Bouder tried really hard, but I couldn’t suspend my disbelief. I never saw a swan, I saw Ashley Bouder trying her darnedest to dance like a swan. I kept wishing that Veronika Part would fly in and take over.
As for the production, if we could take the best of NYCB’s Swan Lake and the best of ABT’s, we might have something worth sitting through. And why on earth did they take the Arabian dance from Nutz and stick it in as the Russian dance?

Thanks for the link to Catazaro’s instagram explanation.

Angelica, this is why I recommend going into NYCB’s S.L. performance with the idea of just seeing loosely connected divertissements, not really Swan Lake. If one is expecting Swan Lake, it can be a traumatic experience.

You’re so right, Haglund. Unfortunately, I read your review of opening night after the cows got out.

I do think that NYCB’s corps is crisper and cleaner than ABT’s. The cygnets on Tuesday were so in sync, it was pure perfection. As much as I loved Mearns, the faster pace during the white swan pdd bothered me a bit. While I connected with her characterization of both O/O, I missed the ABT pacing during this crucial scene. Sad for Catazaro, quite a loss.

Speaking of cygnets, it appears Ashley Bouder is hatching one. Unless I have misunderstood completely. That gal is full of surprises!

Yes, Diana, it appears so.
Our Haglund’eeler Belladewood picked up a good tip on that last week but we felt it best to hold off on publishing the news until Ashley made a more definitive announcement, which she has done: https://instagram.com/p/8IyB-1P__Z/?taken-by=ashleybouder
As usual, her timing is rather remarkably perfect. She’ll be roaring back at the beginning of next fall’s season if not sooner. Good for her. I think it makes everyone happy to see her so happy.
