Veronika Part will be Giselle at the Mariinsky Theatre on August 1st. Yes, she will.
Her partner has not yet been listed on the Mariinsky website, but will surely be posted shortly. How wonderful that the rest of the world recognizes who ABT's great Giselles are even though Kevin McKenzie cannot. Part, Abrera, Murphy, Lane, Kajiya – all have been pushed aside to make way for a dumpy-dancing equinarina and a geezerina who can no longer do the steps. Haglund is happy that he threw his little bit of financial support to Houston Ballet, another place where the true talent of ABT has been recognized and finally rescued.

Great news for Veronika and for St Petersburg audience! Gillian Murphy has been treated appallingly- the first time I saw her was in the Swan Lake recording with Corella and she is sublime. Such brilliant technique (never seen such a dazzling Odile variation)which nonetheless remains second to her breath-taking musicality and artistry. And she is always so sincere and passionate in everything she dances. She is, for me, one of the great American ballerinas and is so wasted under Kevin McKenzie!
The situation with the soloists is also tragic- I’m glad that Matthews and Kajiya have jumped ship. It’s a big loss for the company but a good move for them
