Marcelo Gomes will return as guest artist at Sarasota Ballet for the upcoming season, the company just announced. In addition to his appearance with the company in Ashton's The Two Pigeons at the Joyce Theater this August, he will perform in Balanchine's Diamonds in Sarasota in December. In January 2019, he'll appear in a world premiere by resident choreographer Ricardo Graziano; in March 2019, Marcelo will portray The Poet in the company's debut of Ashton's Apparitions. All great news.
ABT needs to come to its senses (like it really has any…), get on its freakin' knees, and get Marcelo back here.

Meanwhile, ABT has announced a Fall Season that is so unappealing and so utterly dependent on casting that the company can expect virtually no one to buy tickets until it announces who is dancing what. There's not a single performance that Haglund wants to sit through in its entirety and there are several that he'll avoid regardless of cast. Whether he'll fork over money to watch Symphonie Concertante and Other Dances depends on whether McKenzie tries to shove Whiteside, Boylston, and Copeland down everyone's throats on those programs. It's fully expected that he will show utter disrespect for Balanchine when casting Symphonie Concertante in the House of Balanchine. Just you watch.
It's becoming easier and easier to skip ABT performances. It's really surprising how easy it has become given the fact that Haglund used to go to nearly 40 performances during the spring season and nearly every performance during the fall.

NYCB has announced the program for Joaquin De Luz's Farewell for which Haglund will pay top dollar. He will dance in Balanchine's Theme and Variations, Robbins' A Suite of Dances, and Peter Martins' Todo Buenas Aires. Concerto Barocco will also be on the program, but Joaquin will not dance in it. Single tickets for this performance go on sale August 5th. On a completely speculative note, Haglund wonders if De Luz will be fitted for a gold top hat for some appearance somewhere around City Center in November. Oh, lordy, think about that! Or think about De Luz, Dvorovenko, R. Fairchild, and Ramasar in this, again complete speculation:
VOLUME UP!

I hope Lane/Cornejo will be back for Other Dances. Otherwise, a completely boring Fall Season. Why don’t they perform De Mille anymore?? And Ashton very rarely too. I guess we’re lucky to be spared any of Millepied’s junk.

Do you know if Marcelo doing both the Two Pigeons PdD at the Joyce? I’m having trouble locating casting info.

Yukionna, I don’t know for sure but I’m counting on it.

Marcelo’s evening with Sarasota at the Joyce is damn-near sold out. No orchestra left.
New York clearly misses its ballet prince.
