observations 10/22

Haglund just got back from Wayne McGregor’s new ballet “Beckett’s Endgame.” The music by Dustbin Mama was singularly beautiful for its 90 minute long beat of the hamgam. The existential palette for the scenery was magnificently missing, and the costumes had seven foot long sleeves from which none of the dancers could possibly get out of alive. So, what did everyone else do this evening?

I waited in line 5 hours for a Misty ticket but luckily got one for 4k Cash. Man was she amazing 😆 🤪🤣🤣🤣🥸

Lol. It looked like kind of a sparse crowd there at the end on stage from the YouTube videos. Misty’s stage legacy and media legacy are polar opposites, but we are in a time when many honestly cannot tell the difference between a stage-made career and a media-made career, and honestly do not care. Since we’ve been a little existential lately, let’s just say It is what it is until it isn’t.

As predicted, Misty has wormed her way onto the ABT Board of Directors with her sights on being its chair. It’s unlikely that she paid the fee of $250K to get on the Lincoln Center board, and it’s unlikely that she paid anything to get on the ABT board. She will make Susan Jaffe’s life hell, that’s for sure. The entire purpose of the board is to have professional business people to help guide the business strategy AND/OR people with very deep pockets who not only throw money at the organization but raise money from donors. While Misty’s celebrity may bring attention to ABT, has anyone bothered to look if that actually equates to cash in the coffers? Does she actually bring large amounts of money in or does she just get ABT attention by trashing them to the New York Times? How much money has she actually raised for Lincoln Center since joining that board? People have discontinued giving money to ABT because of the attention Misty’s false claims have brought to the organization. Now what?

The amount of fawning this week has been nauseating. Can’t she just spend her time on her “brand” since she’s done since 2019?
