Hi Fred. No, I skipped ABT’s repertory performances. In April I spent a few hundred dollars and a half a day of vacation to go down to Washington DC to see Stella Abrera & Eric Tamm lead the 1st Movement of Symphony in C in a superior cast that did not include guest artists or imports. While the principals for the most part were exceptional, the overall production was so badly and sluggishly performed that I didn’t want to pay money to see it again. I also dislike Mark Morris’s infantile “Drink” which ABT poured down our throats last fall. That left me to decide whether it was worth spending money on a ticket just to see “A Month…” My decision was that it was not.
Yes, there are some fabulous performances coming up at NYCB. If you haven’t seen Stravinsky’s Violin Concerto in a while, try to get to it in the next two weeks. You won’t be disappointed.

I agree….and you were lucky not to see Osipova and Vasiliev in the Third Movement….Vasiliev must have one of the most ugly bodies in ballet….and the poor dear really could not even keep up with the slow tempos…never mind the dreadful orchestral playing…Osipova was just a cipher.
Vasiliev should just concentrate on his circus acts….and he would be perfect to dance Quasimodo in R. Petit`s ” Notre Dame”…he would not even need a costume.
The M. Morris piece is a just not ballet – what a waste to have such wonderful dancers as Gorak in it….the audience members I spoke to did not like it at all…how about reviving Balanchine `s “Sylvia ” Pas “Sylvia” pas ? On Youtube one can see van Hamel and the great American dancer Patrick Bissel..those were the days….
But the Ashton was a real treat….

I, too, skipped out of the Rep. Couldn’t they have found something other than Drink to start out the evening? It seems silly that they doubled up that piece for fall and spring season. I probably would have rather seen a Millepied that has been in hiatus, than watch Drink after having seen it multiple times at City Center. Same thing for the Symphony #9. There was no reason to show that at the Spring Gala- everyone had just seen it in the Fall. It would’ve been nice to show us something from the other 2 Shostakovich pieces.
