Tuesday, December 13 marks the first of hopefully many live HD transmissions by NYCB to movie cinemas across the country, and hopefully across the world eventually. Five hundred theaters will receive the inaugural live transmission which will, of course, be The Nutcracker. See NYT article here.
Don't forget that Live from Lincoln Center will present a live performance of NYCB's The Nutcracker on PBS the following evening, December 14 at 8PM. Check your local PBS channel listings. Here in NYC on WNET 13, the presentation will be rebroadcast on December 16 at 1:30AM and December 18 at 12:30PM.
This is great news, and boy, don't we need a little of that these days.

I’m happy to see that one of the American companies is getting in the movie theater game…hopefully, for me, this will be shown closer than the Ballet in Cinema broadcasts that are 35 miles from my house! Hopefully this signals some sort of shift in union rules/Trust rules that have prevented this before now (or so people have claimed).

Hoping ABT will join the bandwagon.(not the Nutcracker, but maybe, the diana-Marcelo”Onegin”) This cast could even be shown internationally.

Hi K. You may be right. The new media manager for Live from Lincoln Center is making this HD transmission her first project since coming over from Major League Baseball. If she can negotiate player and union demands with regard to MLB broadcasts, NYCB should be a walk in the park for her. I’m sure everyone will come out a winner financially.
Don’t forget the actual Live from Lincoln Center presentation the next night December 14th. Since the same folks are directing both transmissions, I wonder if there will be any differences in the end products.
Hi Jose. Yes let’s hope ABT climbs on board, but as we all know, ABT is like that big tanker in the ocean that turns direction at a snail’s pace and then isn’t sure where it’s headed. Maybe the Live from Lincoln Center folks can help.
Onegin would be nice, but I’d prefer a homegrown cast be presented instead of ABT presenting itself as one Haglund’eeler calls it, the “Pier 1 Imports Ballet Company.”
