What a letdown, LCF. Seriously? No ballet, but a bunch of Monkeys?
Not a thin dime this year, not one thin dime.

I’m so depressed. We’re planning another trip to NYC this summer, and I guess “Sleeping Beauty” will be the only option for us. We, like you, were hoping that LCF would in bring another great company this summer.

Ellen, if your dates are flexible, you should consider SPAC in July where the National Ballet of Canada will present Giselle at the fantastic outdoor venue July 17th & 18th. Tickets go on sale May 15th. Check it out:

Preceding NBofC in July, NYCB will be at SPAC with mixed rep including a fantastic, and I mean FANTASTIC program of Serenade, Stravinsky Violin Concerto, and Theme and Variations on July 11th.
SPAC is a pretty wonderful little vacation spot and a short trip from NYC on Amtrak (or a picturesque drive) as well.

Ellen, it looks like the NBofC tickets at SPAC are on sale already.

I love SPAC, I went there to see the band Phish in 2004. The downside to it is that the Saratoga race track holds its very popular horse racing program in the summer, if the dates of that conflict with any concert/ballet going, it could be impossible to find a place to stay with a fairly large radius.
As for the LCF, I kept looking at their website, thinking I had missed a page that listed all the good stuff they surely were going to present. Nope, it’s pretty dire this year. Now if only the Paris Opera Ballet would come to the west coast……

Henry, thanks for the heads up. I won’t wait much longer to get a hotel reservation in Saratoga Springs.
Yeah, LCF is sad this year. It looks like the 2013-14 Segerstrom season is, too.
