Due to the unfortunate injury to Cory Stearns, there has been some cast reshuffling for the run at Dorothy Chandler Pavillion next week. The Sunday 2:00pm cast for Le Corsaire offers some real gems, including Joseph Phillips in only his second performance of Ali. Haglund saw his debut at the Kennedy Center last April which was quite impressive, and then later learned that the day before he'd been in the local E.R. with some intestinal something-or-other. Wow, to see him do this role when he's fully hydrated and fully rested is going to be a huge treat for a lot of people.
Also, that performance includes The Great Cornejo and the lovely and spunky Xiomara Reyes who will dance Conrad and Medora. Pile on performances by Stella Abrera (Gulnare), Sascha Radetsky (Lankendam), and Craig Salstein (Birbanto), and you're looking at a performance worth driving for hours and hours through the worst, most hellish LA traffic to attend. This will be ABT's final performance of the season – you do not want to miss it. Do not miss it.
Another substitution that everyone should be interested in is Thomas Forster who makes his debut opposite Veronika Part in the Second Movement of Symphony in C Thursday night. Forster is a most elegant dancer who everyone in NYC seems to want to see more and more of these days. Wait until you see his legs and feet.

Fantastic! I am going to the rehearsal for the triple bill and then the performance, and will get to see my favorite – Thomas Forster – in Symphony in C, partnering Veronika Part, no less! Oh happy day! I have tickets for both Friday and Sunday’s Le Corsaire, and am relieved that they did not move beautiful Stella Abrera out of Sunday due to the other change of cast, and look forward to seeing Joseph Phillips.

So unfortunate that supposedly not one other male dancer in the company could step in to dance with Veronika Part.

Hi Sillypants.
Here’s the thing. With both Stearns and Hammoudi injured and Hallberg in Moscow, it becomes a difficult situation for Veronika in a big role like Medora that requires a lot of strong partnering. This could turn out to be a blessing in disguise, however, because Tom Forster who appears to me to be both bigger and stronger than Stearns & Hammoudi is getting the chance to partner Veronika in Symphony in C. From my years watching him, he seems to be a much more Romantic kind of partner than the other two. If it works well, Tom might turn out to be her go-to guy after Gomes. If Stearns had gotten injured a few weeks earlier, there might have been time to put Forster in Le Corsaire.
An alternative might have been Whiteside, but he is dancing Ali and Chamber; where’s the time going to come from to pick up another role in a few days. Besides, I don’t like seeing him dance with Veronika, anyway. Not at all.
I really don’t know what other male dancer could have stepped in to dance with Veronika in Le Corsaire. Gomes is already slated for Apollo and a Corsaire with Murphy who is his regular in-house partner for that ballet. Like I said, however, it could be a blessing in disguise, although it seems a shame that she will not get to dance Medora in L.A.

Robin, thanks for Gold Star ticket link. Those are nice discounts that they are offering.
I wonder how much ballet I’d see if I had to deal with that LA traffic in order to see it.

Thank you, Haglund, for your last comments about Tom Forster, who is, by the way, 6’3″. I will be rooting for him on Thursday! Veronika Part would have approved him as her partner. And she wants to be seen (and we want to see her) in the second movement of Bizet.

Gray Davis is another tall(over 6 feet) talented corps member waiting for his break. He partnered Veronika in the Vaseliev Gala(i think) a while back.

Hi Jose. Yes, I remember seeing that excerpt from V. Vasiliev’s Othello danced by Veronika and Gray. Complex partnering, if I recall correctly.

Thanks for your great comment haglund! I had never considered that. Looking forward to your reviews on the fall season.

Great to see Forster get this opportunity! It’s not that often that someone can do a simple tendu and take your breath away. But with his legs and feet that’s exactly what happened to me!
