Even by New York standards, this is magnificent

Santiago Calatrava's transit hub by the World Trade Center has partially opened. It is a spectacular instant landmark of public art and high tech transportation functionality. When you look up at the Oculus, you can see the World Trade Center rising above. It is at once startling, beautiful, and awe-inspiring.

Most of the cost overruns can be attributed to poor management by the Port Authority but unfortunately they get tied to the starchitect's name. This is a magnificent complex. Never has Haglund ever been in a subway station that smelled this good. Not just okay, but good. Everyone should go visit this building before it gets too dirtied up by commuters. The easiest route is through 4 World Trade and down the escalator in the lobby.

I just got home from Philadelphia where I saw Angel’s Don Q. What a pleasure. New Yorkers should make the trip. Pennsylvanians should be out in force supporting their state’s art. Go! You will love it!

    Hi HF.
As you may have gathered, old Haglund has a fetish for lines that are as clear as a note of music. This Calatrava design delivers classic lines that rise and evolve into gentle curves. Just seeing the wings lifts the human spirit.
Hopefully, I’ll have a post up about Angel’s new Don Q after I get back tomorrow night. I’m very excited to see it.

Thanks, Kent. That’s a very cool video – kind of a hybrid sales pitch-human interest piece.
I hope you will get down there soon with your own camera.

Kent went down to the new WTC PATH station and got a few fabulous photos: http://www.notmydayjobphotography.com/NewYorkPhotos-1/New-York-1/i-gKLB8Lj
The inside reminds me of the opening tableau of Symphony in Three Movements as captured by Paul Kolnik: http://www.nycballet.com/Ballets/S/Symphony-in-Three-Movements.aspx
    Thanks, Kent!
