More casting for the Segerstrom Center premiere of ABT's Sleeping Beauty has been posted on the calendar. It appears that Marcelo Gomes is slotted to perform – in addition to his Prince Desire role opposite Diana Vishneva – the role of Carabosse in the Seo/Stearns cast on Thursday and Sunday afternoon. That might turn out to be Petipa reconstruction with a twist.

NYCB's Week 6 casting hasn't yet been posted in its regular place on the website, but it is showing up when you click on a specific date to buy tickets. For example, click on February 25th and the page shows that Erica Periera and Taylor Stanley will dance the leads in Harlequinade Square Dance on February 25th and 28th while Ashley Bouder and Anthony Huxley will dance on February 24th and March 1st.

Here's the link for purchasing tickets to see Tom Gold Dance at the Kaye Playhouse on March 2nd and 3rd. As we mentioned last month, Simone Messmer will be performing with the group that includes NYCB dancers Marika Anderson, Daniel Applebaum, Likolani Brown, and Andrew Scordato.

Oh good, I picked Seo/Stearns correctly! I’m sure Salstein will also be a treat. But no Stella for me as listed, though I’m holding hope for her place in the fairy line-up. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen/taken notice of Cassandra Trenary, so that will be an interesting prospect.
Haglund, who do you think the last listed dancer is? “Lead” fairy???

Hi K.
I think the last listed dancer under what is presumably Blue Bird is probably Princess Florine. The dancer listed above Blue Bird might be a lead fairy. I’m basing this guess on the Friday cast because it doesn’t seem that a Simkin/Shevchenko BB/PF would be a great fit because of their height difference – but anything is possible.

Haglund, I think you have it mixed up. Pereira and Bouder will mix the leads in Square Dance, but Tiler Peck and Ashley Bouder are sharing duties with dancing the lead in Harlequinade.

Thanks, Ivy. I’ve scratched in that correction. What a season Erica is having.

You’re right that does seem to make more sense.
The program is posted on the SCFTA website now (if you go to the ticket buying page for the run), but it does not yield any particularly helpful info about who the mystery dancer is within the plot summary.

Thanks, m&m, for clarifying the roles for the bottom two dancers!
K, with regard to the fairies, my guess is that the lead fairy is the Diamond Fairy. The Gold, Silver and Sapphire Fairies often dance together. Then the Diamond Fairy comes out and does those very awkward grand jetes that come to a dead (and usually very heavy) stop, and then she has another variation with lots of opened sissones battu – or something like that. So my guess is that Boylston, Trenary, Shevchenko, and Brandt will be the jumping Diamond Fairy.

I’m so excited to have read the comments on this post because it hadn’t occurred to me to check the Orange County casting, since I won’t be there! I’m thrilled to see Cassie Trenary and Gabe Stone Shayer getting to dance PF/Diamond Fairy and BB respectively. These are two of the most promising young dancers in the corps. How I wish I could see them, there or in NY. Hopefully they’ll do fabulously and get slotted in for June!

Hi, bsc.
Yes, it’s good news, indeed, and we should expect to see them in those roles at the Met, too. However, as I recall, ABT provides a more limited glimpse of casting for the Met performances on its website. So, you may have to search out that info when the Met season grows closer.
