“Mad Men” Nutcracker

Well, of course. And why not?

One of the Twin Cities' most avant-garde and beloved home-cut & polished artistic gems, Myron Johnson, will mount his popular off-the-wall version of the holiday classic, Nutcracker (Not So) Suite, on James Sewell Ballet for this coming season.

Myron's Nutcracker used to be performed by his own company Ballet of the Dolls, which was formed in 1986, but the company is currently on hiatus. The idea of mounting the production on Sewell's company evolved during Myron's current stint as company class teacher.

Myron tweaks the script of his Nutcracker every year – significantly. This year's version will have a theme of the 1960's Mad Men era – but with, you know, dolls – including that most famous doll of the '60s, Barbie. The rats will be beatniks.

We're glad to hear that Myron is back at work. Hopefully, one of our local Haglund'eelers will file a performance report in December.
