Hooray for Skylar Brandt who nabbed two Medoras in next week's run of Le Corsaire with ABT. We had a feeling that she might have the opportunity to step up. Haglund was going to skip the whole week, but now – no way, no how. You don't want to miss this, either. This cast is fail-safe, and everyone is able to dance with everyone else in the event that someone goes down in the middle of the performance. It almost looks smart, but we're sure it was just a coincidence.
Don't forget the Rush Ticket opportunity. Also, at this very moment, both of Skylar's performances are on TDF along with four other Le Corsaires.

The probable bad news for next spring season is this announcement that next February ABT is taking that cuckoo spit of a ballet, Firebird, to St. Louis Nebraska. They've already announced the casting for each date: you-know-who for February 16th and the other you-know-who for February 17th. Can't ABT bury this turkey? The idea of possibly having to see it take up space on the schedule next year makes us sick to the stomach.
In other news, when the Detroit Opera House announced its 2017-2018 season, they said that ABT would dance four performances of Romeo and Juliet and promised that you-know-who would dance two of those four performances.
Ya think ABT could be so transparent with its home audience about either its fall or next spring season or even a timely notice when it decides to change a cast. Wanna bet that we have to wait until two or three weeks before the fall season for them to announce the major casting — even though they know it right this second? Come on, people.

Wow go Skylar!

Perhaps one or two of the current soloists will get a chance to debut in R&J in those other two Detroit performances. The midwestern fans need to see their internet idol in person, which is fine. Right now, ABT’s women soloists are unstoppable, and New York loves them!

Rachel, she’s got this. She danced Medora in the Studio Company. Can’t wait to see both performances.
LLF, so right you are about the soloists. The women are awesome and on fire; the men need to pick it up a little, you know what I mean?

Love Skylar. She is so unlike all of the principals right now in her dancing style. I was going to skip Le Corsaire all together but the idea of someone lifting the veil to reveal such a fresh, eager, and technically precocious dancer puts my money back in ABT’s pocket.
I wonder what the internal rumblings at ABT are like right now…
I’m fine with Misty on R&J. I think it’s a great role for her to focus on as she grows and becomes even less likely to execute more technically demanding ballets. I saw some clips of her and Roberto Bolle and she looked really beautiful. With Diana gone next year, a couple R&J slots will open for Sarah or Devon…*wishful thinking extreme*

How refreshing that the soloists are being given opportunities to shine! No “Hee Seo Ballet Theatre” this season.

Haglund, the Firebird shows are actually to be held in Lincoln, Nebraska. ABT is collaborating with St. Louis Symphony but not actually performing in St. Louis, it appears. I’m from St. Louis but ultimately wouldn’t even have an interest in seeing ABT in Firebird if they came here. Dreadful, bloated production which I’ve already had to bear twice, and I have no interest in donating to the Misty Campaign Machine.

I’m so happy that Skylar is performing! I initially got the ticket just for Cornejo and Simkin.
*eye roll* that the celabrina gets two performances in Detroit and is referred to as, “world renowned.” Aside from La Scala, what other major companies have invited her to guest? This would be such a great way for Sarah to low key debut Juliet. At stage door after Sarah’s Giselle, her husband said that although she doesn’t aim for principal, (it’s just a title), she would love to dance Juliet. And why shouldn’t she? Her Giselle with Herman was hands down my favorite of the five I saw this past week. Sarah’s Juliet with Herman as her Romero is myndram performance.

Thanks LKR. I made the correction from St.L. to Nebraska in the post. Poor Nebraska.

Hi, Lena. It may be as Luis said that Sarah doesn’t “aim” for principal, but WE aim for it for her — we who throw down the cash for tickets and we who know quality when we see it and know trash, too – WE want to see the best home-grown dancers leading the company and giving the best possible performances. By the way, Luis looked fabulous and proud of Sarah. What a loss to ABT it was when he and Tamm walked out for lack of opportunities. That loss will be felt anew next week in Le Corsaire. He was one of the best ever Birbantos. Look at those lines.

Whatever Sarah Lane’s husband may say, her IG posts from after last summer’s promotions were announced suggested to me that she most certainly is aiming for principal – and why shouldn’t she?

Totally agree, nanushka.

That’s what we love about our Sarah: her humility and grace. Something a certain soloist-turned-fake-principal lacks.

ABT has no luck with bird-themed Ratmansky projects it seems. We saw the Golden Cockerel for the first time last week and HATED it.
