Five years after her startlingly brilliant debut as Princess Aurora in Peter Martins' gorgeous Sleeping Beauty at New York City Ballet, Ana Sophia Scheller will again dance the title role next week but in Helgi Tomasson's staging of the Petipa classic for San Francisco Ballet. In 2013, we dubbed her NYCB's Petiparina because of her authenticity and unexpectedly pure classicism. Lucky is San Francisco to have Ana among its beautiful first-week Auroras including Sasha De Sola and Mathilde Froustey.

Was at the performance Wednesday and was absolutely gorgeous. NYCB’s loss is absolutely SFB’s gain. She performed Stars & Stripes in the gala and I kept thinking about how wonderfully the Argentinian projected the American soubrette spirit.

Oh that’s good to hear, Sharon. It seems that Helgi brought in Lola de Avila to work with the dancers. I recently saw her staging of Giselle at the Joffrey, and it was phenomenal.
