observations 4/8

Miami City Ballet's costume department is also making face masks for hospital workers. (Tulsa Ballet was the first). Meanwhile, ABT has postponed its gala by five months. Their suggestion: Instead of buying a new dress or tuxedo, give to the ballet. Let's all jump on Zoom and have a virtual vomit.

Mariinsky TV is running Lavrovsky's Romeo and Juliet (premiere 1940) today. Three different Romeos and Juliets will dance as will two different Tybalts and Mercutios.

Sorry, everyone. Mariinsky is already on to its next production, The Gambler, by Prokofiev. R&J was extraordinary, though.

So the east coast will have to wait a few extra months for a little “Love & Rage,” eh? Whatever happens, let’s hope that Stella gets a proper farewell.

If they wanted to, they could put Giselle on the Koch stage. Paris Opera Ballet did it with little problem. They really should consider it, because it is becoming more and more difficult for them to put together any kind of a rep program that will fly.
