Kajiya & Matthews on SYTYCD – Next Thursday!

Let's give credit where credit is due.  SYTYCD has made sincere efforts to present snippets of classical ballet on its program in order to help the art form reach an audience that is generally more interested in social/street dance that has, of late, worked its way to professional stages — not unlike what ballet did several hundred years ago.  But there is something about the camerawork that always desensitizes the moment — Haglund thinks it is an unwillingness for the camera operator to stay still at a distance and just let the dancers do the magic instead of trying to focus in on what the operator believes are the most important tricks of the piece.

Tonight Next Thursday on SYTYCD, ABT soloists Jared Matthews and Yuriko Kajiya will perform a PdD from Don Quixote.  In front of millions.  What a well-deserved opportunity for this talented, handsome pair.  Both just completed terrific growth seasons at the Met and are definitely ready for this kind of spotlight.  Tonight  Next Thursday 7/22- on Fox at 9pm (Eastern).
