ABT 5/18
Irina Dvorovenko bows out in style

Irina Dvorovenko certainly left us with a memorable performance of Tatiana in tonight's Onegin.  It's hard to think of a performance of Onegin that has been more enjoyable.  In fact, the whole cast tonight – the same as the Wednesday matinee – delivered a powerful ballet equivalent of Renee Fleming, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Ramon Vargas, and Elena Zaremba in the Met Opera's own Eugene Onegin production.

What a pleasure.  What an honor to have been there.

Photographer Kent G. Becker had a very good view of the post-performance celebration.  His website is NotMyDayJobPhotography.  He let Haglund know that he's really busy this weekend, but he will be posting additional photos next week.  Here's a little sampler:

The First Position Pump Bump Award goes to Irina, the only one who has style enough to stand up in these Louboutins:

I agree. Irina was superb… absolutely divine!!
What a nice photo, too. Irina’s daughter is so cute. I think she’ll grow up to be a fashion plate, like her mother. And Irina and Max seem so in love, even after 20 years of marriage! It was a nice send-off. Sad… but nicely done, I thought.
I found this interview with Irina and Max. It was recorded last fall. Their opinions about the guest artist situation at ABT are very interesting (listen in at the 14:30-17:30 minute mark). I still think that Irina retired a few years too soon. But obviously, she must not have been too happy with all that was going on behind the scenes.
