Hold onto your hats, Washington DC!

Hold onto your hats

Just announced:

Marcelo Gomes is going to dance Basilio to Gillian Murphy's Kitri for the opening night of ABT's run of Don Quixote in Washington, DC on Thursday, April 17th!

Marcelo rarely ever dances the role but usually flashes around as Espada to Veronika Part's sultry Mercedes. This is a rare, rare, rare opportunity: Murphy, Gomes, Abrera, and Radetsky – all in the same Don Q cast for one smoking-hot night only.

DCers, you don't want to miss this – it could be the last time. It could be a great contest or no contest at all. As the guy in the picture knows well, a good goring by a pair of provoked pointes can make a fella wish he'd never climbed into the ring.

Additional cast change: Joe Gorak will dance in Les Sylphides in place of Cory Stearns on the opening night.

I’m envious – that would be a dream cast for me. I have a ticket for Murphy/Matvienko again this year. Is there a way to find out the cast other than Kitri/Basilio for the Met performances? I’m hoping for Stella and Sascha again. I saw both Wed shows last year, but I’m going to pass on the matinee this year even though I’d love to see Veronika again.
I am thrilled that Marcelo is paired again with Murphy in SL, as in 2012. My SL experience last year was a huge disappointment.

Great for Gorak! I think he deserved more performances than that 1 Coppelia. McKenzie can’t keep relying on Gomes and Cornejo for everything (Every other male principal right now is either a MET only Principle a la Bolle/Hallberg or unimpressive like Stearns/Whiteside) He should be giving dancers with great potential like Gorak more opportunity right now.

Hi, Patricia. ABT generally, though not always, lists the Espada & Mercedes casting a few weeks beforehand. However, in years past I’ve had to call to find out. Simply call ABT at 212-477-3030 and ask for “Press”. Usually there is someone available who can look up the casting for you if they have it.
I do recall your disappointment last year in Whiteside’s Siegfried. This year’s Murphy/Gomes should make up for that poor experience.

Tiffany, so true about Gorak. He should be doing things like Theme and Variations, Duo Concertant, and Albrecht. There’s never a need to import a guest for an Albrecht. It’s all so ridiculous.
